January 2, 2008 - Memphamily Reunion
Some of the vets (mainly Haley Burks) came up with this really cool idea - what do you think? Since we held our banquet this year on the beaches of California, we need some kind of celebration in Tennessee!

How about a Memphis sound reunion for all vets on January 11-13, 2008? Can y'all revive some memories or what? Bring your good ole' drum corps air mattress & sleeping paraphernalia or whatever & join the rest of us. Also, bring all of your pictures/window "stuff"/souvies, etc., and help us start a new tradition for Memphis Sound.

We will be holding auditions & the "Memphamily" reunion @ Bethel College Center for Performance Excellence, 14895 Highland Avenue, McKenzie, Tennessee 38201.

We sure would like to see as many of the "old" faces as possible. Please drop in some time over the weekend or stay for the whole camp!! We will have our "show & tell" @ 1:00 p.m. Sunday 1-13-08. Wouldn't you like to hear the corps song again?? Maybe some people can still play it!!

I do not have everyone's e-mail address/telephone # from previous years, so could you pass this "invite" on down the road????

Please RSVP me @ this e-mail address if you can attend so I can get some estimate of the numbers for food. The cost will be $10.00.

I miss everybody, how about you????

Mrs. Pam

* Note: The Center for Performance Excellence is not on the Bethel College campus. Please see THIS MAP for directions.

August 11, 2007 - Memphis Sound wins Gold Medal at Division III Championships
On Saturday, August 8, 2007, Memphis Sound was named the Division III World Champions at the finals competition in Pasadena, CA with a winning core of 90.550. They finished 5th overall in the Division II/III Championships.

Corps Director Andre Feagin was very excited to win the Division III Championship and was very proud with everything the corps has accomplished. “The corps members were hungry to be great, and really, that's all I needed. You show me a group of young men and women who are willing to make a difference, and I'm going to make sure that that's possible,” said Feagin. “I'm so proud right now that I don't know what to do with myself. The corps has over-achieved everything I could have possibly wanted for them.”

Memphis Sound also won the best brass performance, best visual performance and best percussion performance awards in Division III. Memphis Sound edged Fever (2nd-90.450) by winning GE Music (.6 over Fever. The GE scores are not divided in half for the overall score as are all the other captions), Visual Performance and all three Music captions (Brass, Ensemble and Percussion), taking the combined Music captions by .3. Although Fever was second in all music captions, spreads by Memphis Sound of 1.0 in brass and .9 in music over Fever (remember those spreads are reduced in half for the overall score) kept the corps in the lead by a final spread of just .1. Third in Color Guard (1.1 under Fever) wasn’t enough to drop the corps out of first.

Congratulations to all of the hard working young men and women who gave their very best this summer along with the instructional staff, parent volunteers, parents and fans. We’re all looking forward to another successful season in 2008.

August 11, 2007 - Andrew Snead named Division III Drum Major of the Year

The Most Outstanding Drum Major Award for Divisions III was given to Andrew Snead of Memphis Sound at the finals competition at Pasadena City College.  The award is designed to recognize excellence in corps leadership and in conducting skills, and Snead was very honored to receive the award. He believes that drum corps has taught him to become a better leader and he’s proud of what he has accomplished.

“It’s actually a little unreal to win this award today. Being drum major has been a great experience so far, and to be rewarded at the end makes everything worth it,” said Snead.  “I’ve learned to be my best even when I feel at my worst, to make something better every day and to just be a better person. It’s been just fantastic to stand in front of and represent this corps.”

This is the 4th consecutive year that Memphis Sound’s drum majors have captured this distinguished award for their division with former drum majors Matt Souther winning it in 2004 and 2005 and Chris Goodson winning it in 2006. Please join us in congratulating Andrew Snead on winning this award.

August 11, 2007 - Andre Feagin named Division III Corps Director of the Year
Drum Corps International’s Division II and III corps gave several special awards Saturday afternoon as the corps wrapped up their 2007 seasons.  Andre Feagin of Memphis Sound was named Director of the Year in Division III. Feagin is in his first year as director for the corps. “My biggest sense of accomplishment is certainly watching the growth of the kids,” said Feagin. “The sheer transformation of the ensemble and the organization inside and out – that’s our greatest achievement this year.” Feagin served not only as a first-time corps director, but also as brass caption head for the corps. “I was announced corps director in January of this year, so we haven’t been together for very long,” Feagin said. “But we’ve experienced a lot together, a lot of ups, a lot of downs, and in all, an incredible growing experience for everyone involved.”  Congratulations Andre for all of your hard work this year and for your unrelenting commitment to the kids and their show.

Andre Feagin

July 18, 2007 - Sound of Champions show a success
Thanks to the hard work of so many volunteers, the SOC show was a great success on Tuesday night.  The weather could not have been more perfect with temperatures in the low 80s and not a drop of rain all day.  The Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium proved to be an excellent venue with plenty of seats allowing fans to watch the show from any vantage point the liked  and to have enough space around them to stay cool.  Each of the six corps put on a great show with The Cadets blowing everyone away (literally) and taking the gold medal in Division I.  Our very own Memphis Sound put on their best show of the season and were rewarded with their highest score so far this summer.  Everyone that stayed around for the encore performance by Carolina Crown received a performance they won't soon forget.  We hope everyone will join us again next year for the 5th annual Sound of Champions show.  Be sure to bookmark the shows website www.midsouthmusicgames.com and check back regularly for information on next year's show.

A note of special thanks to Mr. Bryan Finley, Band Director, his wife Robin and the hard working members of the Overton H.S. marching band and their parents.  Without their support, the show certainly would not have gone off as smoothly as it did.  Thanks Guys - We love you!
