Recycling Fundraiser

You can help Memphis Sound through the collection of used/empty ink or laser cartridges and used cell phones.

As a corps member, you can earn anywhere from 40 cents to $20 for individual ink cartridges and as much as $70 for cell phones toward your membership fees. If you are a friend of the corps, the money you help us raise will go toward the corps’ operating budget.

How does it work?

Collect used/empty ink cartridges and used cell phones from any source, bring them to camp with you or send them to the corps, and we’ll apply the entire credit for what you send to your membership dues. If you’re a non-member and are doing this simply to help the corps, we’ll deposit the funds in the corps’ general operating account (contact the corps if you have a large quantity of cartridges). It is that simple.

What’s the catch?

There is none. The only limitation is that the cartridges and phones must be on the approved recycling list, which includes over 400 different cartridges and almost 700 different cell phone models. The list is provided below.

How do I do this?

Simply collect the cartridges/phones and get them to us. You can collect them from any source; friends, work, your parents’ work, school, businesses in your area, etc.

Star by downloading the flyers and letters to help with your collection efforts (links below). Distribute these to businesses and friends, have your parents distribute them at work, put flyers up at your church, other places your frequent, etc. (Be sure and get permission to put these up or distribute them if required). If your parents work in an office environment, this would be a good source for these kinds of items if the company is willing to help out. Some businesses and schools have contracts or arrangements in place to recycle cartridges already, but you might ask if they will agree to allow some of the items to go to you to help you out. All they can say is, “no,” right?

Next, use the chart HERE to see which part numbers/models are acceptable. This is an Excel spreadsheet, and will allow you to keep track of how many of each that you have. The spreadsheet will automatically calculate how much credit you will get (upon verification by corps staff).

Finally, collect the items, box them up and bring them to camp with you at registration, or ship them to the corps at the address below.

  • Place the ink cartridges in baggies to prevent them from leaking and getting ink on your stuff or from leaking out of the boxes during shipment.
  • Be sure and include a printed out copy of the spreadsheet to help us cut down on the amount of time it takes to process this.
  • Do not send us cartridges or phones that are not on the spreadsheet as they cannot be used and we’ll just toss them without awarding you any credit for them.
  • There is no limit as to how many you can bring/ship to us.

Corps staff will verify your spreadsheet, and will take care of getting the material shipped to the recycling company. Once your items are verified, you’ll be credited with the appropriate amount toward your membership dues. There is no limit on how much credit you can accumulate.  Anything over your membership dues will automatically be credited toward the $250 ad sales requirement, and anything over that will go to the corps' operating budget.
